Memorial, Jeremy Safran (1952-2018)

With great sadness we send you the terrible news of the sudden and tragic death of our colleague in New York, Jeremy Safran. He was a co-founder (with Lewis Aron and Adrienne Harris) of the Sándor Ferenczi Center at the New School where for nearly 10 years he worked with his co-founders to develop programs and lectures to introduce the work and ideas of Ferenczi. In 2015 he also gave his support to the establishment of the International Sándor Ferenczi Network.

Jeremy Safran was a Professor of Psychology and former co-chair of the Department of Psychology at The New School for Social Research. An internationally renowned psychotherapist, Professor Safran was deeply respected for his work on psychoanalytic theory and practice, and was a beloved teacher and mentor. An eclectic thinker, his work spanned research problems, theoretical ideas, and an interest in Buddhism and mindfulness.

A memorial service is planned for the third week of June, to be announced on newschool.edu. Colleagues are planning a fall 2019 conference to celebrate his life and work. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Jennifer Hunter, and children, Ayla and Ellie.

Carlo Bonomi, PhD
President of the International Sándor Ferenczi Network
